The Keystone of Time - an RPG
Journal Entry: Tue Apr 22, 2008, 4:09 PM
I'm thinking of setting up an RPG, and want to know what you guys think of my plan so far. Here's a brief blurb of the scenario - let me know if you want more detail, or have any suggestions to make.
The Keystone of Time
Time is coming undone. At the centre of existence is the Keystone of Time, the god-like force that ensures that reaction follows action, that everything happens as and when it should but the Keystone has been corrupted. Someone, or something, has gained access to the Keystones chamber and desecrated it and now, everything is falling apart.
The effects of the desecration are slow, but unmistakeable. The effect is not universal, but sinks through time and space like an acid. As an area is infected by Timelessness, the natural order disintegrates until all that is left is a nauseating eternity of chaos. Everything that was and could have been and will be and might be, is; everyone that was and could have been and will be and might be, is; and soon, existence will no longer be demarcated by standards of time or space, age or distance, but will be an endless All. With Time undone, so will Death be destroyed, and Life along with it. The universe as we know it will cease to be, and be replaced with something that cannot be endured. The only way to stop this from happening is to return the Keystone of Time to its former state, whereupon its power will be returned and Time woven into place once again.
You live in one of the pockets along the time-space continuum that has just begun to feel the effects of the desecration of the Keystone, and you are one of the first to feel that something is wrong. What happens next is up to you. It seems maudlin to say that the fate of the universe is in your hands, but in the back of your mind, you fear it might be true.

Siamo i figli di mezzo della storia, senza scopo ne' posto. Non abbiamo la grande guerra ne' la grande depressione. La nostra grande guerra è spirituale, la nostra grande depressione è la nostra vita.

"Hey," said Shadow. "Huginn or Munnin, or whoever you are."
The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes.
"Say, 'Nevermore'" said Shadow.
"Fuck you" said the raven. " -> American Gods, Neil Gaiman

Everything that has a beginning has an end. I see the end coming, I see the darkness spreading. I see death... and you are all that stands in his way. If you cannot stop him tonight, then I fear tomorrow will never come. - the Oracle
